Abu Simbel Maps and Orientation: Image of Egyptian felucca boat, sailing down the River NileHome to one of Egypt's most famous sights, Abu Simbel has become an extremely popular tourist destination, due to its tremendous significance in the world of archaeology. One of the most southerly spots in the whole of Egypt, Abu Simbel is just 40 km / 25 miles north of the border to Sudan and relatively near to the bustling city of Aswan, which lies directly to the north-east, along with the Philae Temple.

Abu Simbel enjoys an extremely scenic situated in this part of Egypt and its gigantic twin temples now stand alongside Lake Nasser, on the western shoreline. Egypt's stunning River Nile is also nearby and perfect should you fancy spending a chunk of you holiday enjoying a scenic cruise to Luxor.

Orientation of the City
Due to its tremendous beauty, the Ramses II Temple at Abu Simbel has features in a number of blockbuster movies over the past few decades. Some of the most noteworthy of these include the James Bond Classic, The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), as we as Death on the Nile (1978) by Agatha Christie. More recently, the Ramses II Temple also made an appearance in The Mummy Returns (2001) and even the Phantom Menace episode of the Star Wars films.
